What keeps a roller coaster on the track—even upside down?
Hi, it’s Keegan. This week’s free resource is Roller Coasters: Gravity Does the Work, a complete 12-page Hi-Lo reading packet from the Orthos collection.
It’s written for older students who need an easier reading level, with text at approximately grade 3–4. Students explore the lift hill, gravity, wheels, brakes, and the work of a ride mechanic.

An easy way to use it
- Read: PDF pages 2–5 contain the illustrated article and three “Read It Right” questions.
- Practice: PDF pages 6–8 add vocabulary matching, fill-in sentences, a word sort, and a short written response.
- Check: PDF pages 9–10 contain the 12-question test. Keep PDF page 11, the answer key, for yourself.
Those page numbers count the cover as page 1. Use the activities that fit your class; the test can wait until students have worked through the reading.
